Garmin Descent

Post by LT1962 »

Hi,
Is there any planned support for the Garmin Descent in Diving Log 6.0?

I guess it's a GPS device? You want to download the coordinates of dive sites?

No it a full dive computer with blue tooth GPS, compass etc. Very capable computer without air integration.

It looks like the data can be transferred via Bluetooth LE or USB. BLE is currently a bit difficult on PC's, however USB should work. What does happen when you connect the watch to the PC? Does it show up as USB drive or is it like a normal USB device?

If it shows up as USB drive, are there any FIT files on it which you can send me?

I've created a first test version which you can try. Please download this zip file and copy the content into the Diving Log 6.0 program folder:

https://www.divinglog.com/download/DivelogTest.zip

You will find a new "Garmin" import in the import section. I have tested it with just one file, so I couldn't test imperial units, deco dives and multi gas dives yet. Let me know if you have any problems.

I only have one dive so far with my Descent but it doesn't import:

Import cancelled due to error!

Exception: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Please send this file to info@divinglog.de:

Thank you for the file, I've fixed the problem. Please download the above zip file again and replace the Divelog.exe file. Then the import should work.

The import now "works" but the data are not correct.

The dive was for 53-54 minutes but Diving Log 6.0 is showing it as 43 minutes.

I'll look into this. It is possible that the profile intervals are not equal and that there are gaps in the recording, that has to be filled during import.

I believe you are correct...

Here are the profiles from the Garmin and my Shearwater Perdix AI for the same dive. I exported the Garmin data from Diving Log 6.0 and the Perdix Data is from the Shearwater Desktop.

It seems all good now.

Hopefully, I will have another dive to test tomorrow.

Thank you, that's good news! I've released another update and it would be good if you can do a quick test to see if the dive date and entry time imports correctly:

https://www.divinglog.com/download/DivelogTest4.zip

I had to change the date conversion function, because it didn't worked for other fit files I've received. I've also added some checks to ensure the fit file is actually a diving activity. Other activities like running are now simply ignored during import.
