Petrel Import Steps?

Post by RVbldr »

I'm running a new Petrel, v21 firmware, Dive Log v 5.0.14 on Win8.1. I can successfully connect the Petrel via BT to the Shearwater Dive Manager, then import dives from there to DL. If I try and use the Downloader in DL, I start the process, select Shearwater/Petrel, select "Bluetooth only", but don't see any COM ports, and the NEXT button is not active. If I de-select "Bluetooth Only" I still do not get any ports and the "NEXT" button remains inactive. The unit is showing connected to Windows with an active BT connection.

Any pointers to get a direct download? With the popularity of the Petrel, hopefully we can get a custom mapping.

Thanks,

Jim

Hi Jim

So you don't see any COM ports in Diving Log, but the download works with the Shearwater Dive Manager on the same computer? Strange, I'll have to ask Jef from libdivecomputer if the download still works via COM ports.

Edit: Got a response from Jef:
I think the Shearwater application uses native bluetooth communcation (using sockets instead of serial port emulation). I'm also working a native bluetooth backend for libdivecomputer, but it's not ready yet.
So it looks like you have to create the COM port manually in the Bluetooth configuration. Have a look at these links:

Thanks Sven, I'll take a look at creating a COM port per the links. That is correct, no COM ports show with BT.

Hi Jim

Is that already a Petrel 2? It looks like it is using Bluetooth LE instead of Bluetooth serial profile, so no COM ports are involved: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/comput ... vs-11.html

I think the Petrel 2 has to be supported separately by libdivecomputer. In the meantime you have to import from Shearwater desktop.

Kind regards,
Sven

Any thoughts when libdivecomputer might support the Petral 2 upload?

You would have to ask Jef from libdivecomputer: http://www.libdivecomputer.org/
