Is there a quick and easy way to update a whole bunch of dives in the logbook?
specifically, I want to update the type of dive, fun, education, river, etc. I am having to do it one by one and it sucks. I am hoping I am missing something.
Also I am looking to update the equipment used on a dive in the same fashion. Or is there a template I can apply for the equipment, or only updating the equipment, as I say tend to use the same equipment on a holiday, or making a dive in the middle of the winter, or summer, etc.

Templates allow you to do this and are relatively simple to use.
The only drawback is that they will override anything in the current field that you choose to update.
So for example you can set a template to apply the BC, regulator set, exposure suit etc in the equipment used (and also set the exposure suit tab on the home page) and save it as winter dive template. You can then select a group of dives and apply the template to all dives and it will only change the equipment used and exposure suit tab.
If however you have some extra kit you used on a dive already set it will overwrite that on those dives.
