Ok, well, I uninstalled and reinstalled everything again and rebooted, and now its working. Not sure what voodoo I did or failed to do the first time, but the problem seems to be solved.

Uninstalled and reinstalled, still could not communicate with the D9. However, I found this thread on Scubaboard.com which at least got DM4 working. I have installed 5.0.1 and .NET 4.0, but when I try to start DL5 I get the following error dialog box:
"Unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application"

What am I doing wrong?

I just downloaded Diving Log 5.0, but it won't open my logbook file from version 4.0.
I was using 4.0.11, and the dialog box says I need to open with version 4.0.13 first.
Where can I get 4.0.13, or is there another way to get my logbook to version 5.0?

Hi Sven, just another idea for DL5. How about a tab for marine life? Perhaps even the ability to attach photos for each species. Doesn't seem like it would be too difficult, just another table or two.
