Diving Log 5.0.16 released

Thursday, June 11th, 2015

Today I’ve released another update for Diving Log 5.0, which contains all bug fixes since last November and also an updated libdivecomputer (Universal Downloader):

  • Update for Suunto Dive Manager 5 Import
  • Update for the Universal Downloader
  • Several other bug fixes

The first version of Diving Log 6.0 (non-beta) will be also available later this month, but if you’re using version 5.0, you should download and install this update.

Diving Log 6.0 Beta 8

Saturday, May 23rd, 2015

A new update for Diving Log 6.0 is now available, which includes the dive computer downloader and all import functions. This update has also completed localizations for Italian, Swedish, Finnish, Polish, Turkish and Catalan in addition to German, Spanish, Hungarian and Japanese from the previous release.

There is now a single dive computer downloader in version 6.0 which is more streamlined and cleaned up:

Please try it out and also the import functions you typically use, to see if everything works as expected. Note to OSTC users: there are currently some features missing, e.g. the dive computer settings page or the simulator. They will be added to the “Tools” menu of the main window in a future update. In the meantime, please use the version 5.0 downloader if you need one of these features.

Btw, I still need some help to complete the localization for Czech, Norwegian and Russian.

Diving Log 5.0.15 released

Monday, November 24th, 2014

You can download a new update for Diving Log 5.0 with the following new features:

  • Suunto Dive Manager 5 Support
  • Divelogs.de Sync Update (multiple tanks)
  • SAC Calculation improvement for sidemount dives
  • SAC Calculation multiple tank average improvement
  • Universal Downloader update
  • Japanese Language Support
  • Bug fixes

The Universal Download is now using the latest libdivecomputer, which supports some new header data as well as new dive computer models: Suunto EON Steel, Subgear XP-3G, Aeris F11, Aeris A300CS, Mares Airlab. Many thanks to Jef Driesen for his continuous work! If you want to support libdivecomputer, you can donate on the project website.

The SAC calculation has been improved to better support sidemount dives. Up to now, tanks used during the dive has to be used in the dive profile in order to calculate the correct SAC rate. That makes sense for dives with multiple gases, because you have to switch the gas/tank to get correct deco calculations. When diving with sidemount tanks, you have the same gas and switch a lot during the dive. However you don’t switch anything in the dive computer, because you use the same gas. For these dives, the SAC rate is now calculated correctly. All tanks, which are not assigned to some part of the profile, will be added automatically to the first tank in the tank & gas window. This works even for dives which don’t have a dive profile. You only have to make sure that the first tank in the list is actually one of the sidemount tanks.

The average SAC calculation for multiple tank dives has been improved to reflect the actual dive time of the tank. A high SAC rate tank during a short period of time is now weighted less for the average SAC rate of this dive.

And last but not least, Diving Log is now available in Japanese! Thank you very much to Hiroyuki Yamada, who not only translated the desktop version, but also Diving Log Touch and Diving Log for Windows Phone! This was a lot of work and I’m sure the Japanese Diving Log users will be really happy.

Diving Log 5.0.13 released

Tuesday, April 29th, 2014

Today you can download the next update of Diving Log, which brings some great new features:

If you have version 5.0.12 installed, you can simply install the update setup. If you have an older version, I recommend to install the full setup instead (you do not need to uninstall the old version before).

Diving Log requires now the .NET Framework 3.5, which is already included in Windows 7. For Windows 8 it will be installed automatically. For Windows XP and Vista you have to install it manually.

Diving Log 5.0.12 released

Today I’ve completed Diving Log 5.0.12, which is now available from the download website. Here you can see what’s new since version 5.0.11:

If you have version 5.0.11 installed, you can simply install the update setup. If you have an older version, I recommend to install the full setup instead (you do not need to uninstall the old version before). Thank you to everyone who has tested the previous two beta versions!

Diving Log 5.0.12 Beta 2

Saturday, November 2nd, 2013

Before releasing the next official update, you can try a new beta, which contains many minor improvements in several import functions and one long requested major feature. What’s new since the last beta from September?

  • You can now select the columns and sort order for the dive list (see below)
  • GPS coordinates are extracted from the Exif data from dive site photos (see below)
  • Android ScubaLog export improvement
  • The following import functions got improvements and bug fixes:
    • Liquivision Dive Log
    • UDDF Import (for xDeep Computer)
    • Shearwater Desktop
    • APD Inspiration
    • Suunto Dive Manager 4
    • MacDive
    • Universal Downloader

GPS coordinates from dive site photos: When you capture a photo with your smartphone or GPS equipped photo camera, the current GPS position is stored in the Exif data of the image. Diving Log will now automatically extract this information and store it into the dive site Lat/Lon fields (if the fields are still empty) as soon as you add a dive site photo. If there is already a position stored, the data won’t be overwritten by the data from the image.

Columns and sort order of the dive list: This feature was requested for quite some time and now it is finally implemented. You can select the columns and sort order of the dive list in the logbook window. That means you can display your latest dive on top of the list and you can create a rather narrow list with just the dive number or a wide list with many columns, which spread above the dive details. You can use the layout editor to move the dive list around, to configure the columns and sort order, go into the menu File > Preferences > Dive List:

Dive list with just one column

Please download the beta now and let me know if you find any problems which should be fixed before the final release. Thank you!

New Diving Log Beta

Sunday, September 8th, 2013

You can download a new beta version with the following new features:

  • Universal Downloader improvements. More data will be downloaded from the dive computer (if available and depending on the device model):
    • Gas mix and gas switch support
    • NDL, deco ceiling and stop time
    • CNS, PPO2 and Setpoint
    • Heartbeat and compass bearing
    • Download only new dives support
    • Other improvements and some new devices
  • DAN DL7 Import improved for Cochran computers
  • Uwatec Smart Download and SmartTrak Import improved
  • Spanish Language improvements (many thanks to Luis)

The “Download only new dives” support in the universal downloader will reduce the download times dramatically for some dive computers (not all). Some devices which support this feature will send only new dives which were not yet imported into your logbook. This functionality will be enabled after you imported a new dive with this beta or the next stable release and it is independent from the dives which are actually stored in your logbook. It will simply remember the last dive which was imported with the universal downloader (imported, not downloaded).

Download only new dives

Download only new dives

If the checkbox is disabled like in the image above, you have not yet imported a new dive since installing the new version. Once you’ve done that, you can enable the checkbox for the next download. Install the update setup into the existing Diving Log 5.0.11 program folder. If you have an older version, please update first to 5.0.11 and then install the beta setup.

Diving Log 5.0.11 released

Monday, June 10th, 2013

After two betas, the next stable version is now completed and can be downloaded from the download website. These are the new features since version 5.0.10:

  • New Profile Editor
  • Templates are editable
  • Scubapro LogTrak Import (Meridian)
  • OSTC 3 download support (Universal Downloader)
  • Mares Dive Organizer Update (SQLCE4)
  • Liquivision Lynx and Dive Logger 3.0 support
  • Libdivecomputer update
  • Uwatec Galileo Trimix import improved
  • UDDF import improved for VPlanner

The last 4 changes were added since the last beta version, with Liquivision Lynx support as the main new feature. But there were also some minor tweaks for the Galileo Trimix and UDDF imports from VPlanner. Special thanks also to Jef Driesen for constantly working on libdivecomputer. If you want to support this project, you can find a donate button on the website. Libdivecomputer is the open source download library behind the universal downloader in Diving Log and many other applications.

Diving Log 5.0.10 released

Friday, March 29th, 2013

Diving Log 5.0.9 was just released a few days ago, but unfortunately the new universal downloader had a bug which caused a crash in some circumstances. Today you can download version 5.0.10 and use the update setup either from 5.0.8 or 5.0.9. I’ve added also a few other things:

  • Universal Downloader bug fix
  • New import from Subsurface
  • Improved Suunto Dive Manager 4 import (gas switches and deco)
  • UDDF Import optimized for Submatix SPX42
  • Missing translations in some languages fixed

The Subsurface import was tested only for metric Subsurface logbooks, so if you have a logbook with imperial units it may not work correctly. Please send it to me if you want to import such a file.
