Diving Log 6.0.10 released

Thursday, August 10th, 2017

A new update for Diving Log 6.0 has been released. It brings the following new features and improvements:

  • Galileo G2 support
  • Google satellite map fix
  • LogTrak import improvements
  • Mares Dive Organizer import fix
  • Excel profile data export fixes
  • Surface interval calculation fix

Jef Driesen from libdivecomputer did a great job and added download support for the Scubapro Galileo G2 via USB. Please note, if you want to download the G2 with Diving Log, you have to download an additional zip file and copy the contents to the Diving Log program folder (overwriting the existing files). I cannot deliver this version with the automatic update at the moment, because it breaks the downloader for Atomic Cobalt users.

If you want to support Jef and libdivecomputer, please click the “Donate” button at the bottom of the project page.

I’ve also fixed the Google Satellite map view in the dive site map window. The LogTrak import is optimized for the G2 data and the Mares Dive Organizer import updated to the latest format. The Surface interval calculation is fixed for inverted dive list ordering.

Diving Log 6.0.9 released

Monday, May 29th, 2017

A new maintenance update for Diving Log 6.0 is now available. It fixes some critical issues and includes some minor features:

  • Ratio iX3M Firmware 4.0 Support
  • New Libdivecomputer version
  • Downloader: DiveSystem computer also listed under Ratio
  • Signature “Dot” support
  • Scubase Import improved
  • Fixed a security issue when parsing XML files

Because of the XML security issue you should update to Diving Log 6.0.9 before opening any XML based files (e.g. UDDF or layout files) from untrusted sources. Those files could contain malicious code that would be executed when reading these files with older Diving Log versions. This issue has been fixed in Diving Log 6.0.9.

The latest libdivecomputer version supports also the Ratio iX3M Firmware 4.0, which was released recently. The buddy signature tool can draw now real “dots” when clicking or tapping.

The next signature version will have also a higher resolution format to improve the quality of the strokes.

Diving Log 6.0.3 released

Sunday, December 13th, 2015

Today I’ve released a new update for Diving Log 6.0, with the following new features and improvements:

  • New AV Manager (Underwater Technologies) import
  • DiveSystem DiveLogger import improvements
  • Shearwater Desktop import improvements
  • Poseidon MkVI import improvements
  • Subsurface import improvements
  • Mares Dive Organizer import improvements
  • New Libdivecomputer
  • Download dive computer memory dump
  • Signature popup for unlinked buddies
  • iOS Sync improvements
  • Logbook table summary fix (imperial units)
  • Bug Fixes

Download dive computer memory dump

When there is a problem with the dive computer downloader (e.g. error message or wrong data), you typically have to send some analysis data to Jef Driesen from libdivecomputer. In the past this was a bit cumbersome and required downloading a separate command line tool and executing it in a DOS prompt. This is now a lot easier, because it is built directly into the Diving Log downloader:

Log Errors and Dump File

Log Errors and Dump File

All you have to do is expanding the “Advanced Settings” section in the downloader and check the “Log Errors” and “Dump File” checkboxes (the “Dump File” box is only visible when the “Log Errors” box is already checked. For some dive computer models this function is not available). When both options are selected, you can download your dive computer normally. After the download, Diving Log will package the error log and the dump file into a zip file and prompt you to save the file to your PC. Then you can email it to Jef or me.

Signature popup for unlinked buddies

Previously, the signature popup was only visible for linked buddies (those with a chain icon). Now it is also available for unlinked buddies (with a pencil icon). That way you can easily view signatures without adding the signature field into your layout.

Logbook table summary fix (imperial units)

The summary in the table window was displayed in metric units, even if you’re using imperial units. This has been fixed and depth/temperature summary is now displayed correctly:

Diving Log 6.0 – Beta 5

Friday, May 1st, 2015

Today I released beta 5 of Diving Log 6.0, which will be automatically downloaded when you start Diving Log the next time. You can also start the update check in version 6 manually in the menu Help > Check for updates.

The latest beta contains the usual bug fixes and I’ve also completed the profile editor. If you’re familiar with the profile editor, please try it out, as this one required many code changes from version 5. You can create a new dive in a separate logbook and create profiles completely manually with the “Draw Mode” function, for example.

Diving Log 6.0 – Public Beta

Saturday, April 18th, 2015

I know some of you are eagerly waiting for the first public beta and today you can finally download it. If you want to test it, go to the beta portal, read the release notes and download the installer to your PC. You can install it side-by-side with version 5.0 and switch back and forth between both versions, which is especially useful for features which are currently missing in 6.0 beta.

For the first time, Diving Log has an automatic update tool, which means you don’t have to download and install updates manually. The beta will check every day (only when you launch it, no background updater) if there is an update and ask you to download and install it automatically:

Let me know what you think of version 6.0, what you like, what you don’t like, how you feel about the performance compared to version 5.0. You can use email, the beta forum, Facebook, Twitter or comments in this blog. I will update the beta regularly to fix bugs and add missing features from version 5.0.

Diving Log 6.0 – Logbook Window

Saturday, April 11th, 2015

Today I want to show you the new logbook window in Diving Log 6.0 (the first public beta will be available later this month). I’ve split this blog post into 5 separate posts for each section (just scroll down on the main page or click the links below):

Diving Log 6.0 – Logbook Table

Wednesday, March 11th, 2015

The new logbook table editor for Diving Log 6.0 is now finished and I want to show you what’s new. I’ve already written a blog post about the table editor in version 5.0 and all features carry over to version 6.0, e.g. editing multiple cells at once, copy and pasting data from one cell into multiple other cells, copy and pasting from Excel and many other features. In this blog post I want to show you just the new features.

You can now group, search, sort and filter fields. In the screenshot below, you can see that the dives are grouped by country and city. You can also see the summary panel at the bottom, which displays statistics based on the filtered dives. Clicking on a column header will sort the data.

The build in search panel provides real time search, filter and highlighting functionality. The search and replace window from version 5.0 is still there and can be accessed from the “Replace” toolbar button.

You can pin columns to the left or right (fixed columns), so they stay in view if you scroll horizontally. You can also remove and reorder columns, by dragging them with the mouse. Right click the column headers to get a context menu with many additional features.

To quickly add new data to your logbook, you can now add any number of rows to the end of the table. Then you can start filling the data fields with the normal data editing capabilities, including multiple cell editing, automatic renumbering of the selected dives, pasting from Excel, etc.
