Diving Log for Android – Cloud Sync

Google Drive, OneDrive and Dropbox sync is available in Diving Log for Android. Just open the app drawer and tap on the first menu item “Synchronization”. Log in to your cloud account and you can sync wireless with your PC (Diving Log 6.0), Mac (Dive Log Manager / Dive Log DT), Android or iOS device.

When using Google Drive, you have to upload from the Android app to the cloud at the first time. This is because the app can only access files which it created. After the first upload from the Android app, you can overwrite the existing file from the PC version and the app can still access the file. For OneDrive and Dropbox it does not matter and you can access files uploaded from other apps directly.

In the desktop version, open the “Web” toolbar menu and click on “Dropbox” (make sure the Dropbox desktop app is installed):

If your desktop logbook is not uploaded to the cloud, make sure the local cloud folder is configured correctly, by clicking the gear icon:

    Hi Sven!

I keep my .mdb file used the PC version in Dropbox. It appears that this file won’t sync to the Android app directly, that I have to use the “Web” function, choose “Dropbox”, then “Upload your dives to Dropbox” in order for the Android app to be able to sync. Am I correct in this?

I’m assuming there is some reason why the Android app can’t read the .mdb file directly (which would be nice). If that is the case, it would be great if a preference could be set so that the upload to Dropbox would happen automatically on closing the PC Diving Log program.

Thanks for doing this! I will still mostly be using the PC program but it will be nice to be able to use my phone to check on something in my log if I wish to.

    Regards,

    Dave

    Hi Dave

Yes, you’re right, you can’t use the *.mdb file directly in the mobile apps. The *.mdb file is an Access database file, which cannot be used on mobile devices. The “Web” synchronization converts the database into a SQLite database file, which can be read on mobile devices on all platforms.

    Kind regards,
    Sven

So happy you’ve made an Android app! But I don’t use Dropbox, I only use Google Drive.

Will you support that sync method?

Very happy to pay once that comes in.

    Cheers

    Hi Rowan

It depends on if there is a ready to use SDK for the development tools I’m using. Right now there don’t seem to be such a SDK. In the meantime you can use the Google Drive app to manually upload and download the logbook file from the “Diving Log” folder on your phone to the “Divelog” folder in Google Drive.

    Kind regards,
    Sven
