Updates for Diving Log 6.0 and Android released

Saturday, December 19th, 2020

I’m happy to announce two updates, one for Diving Log 6.0 on Windows and one for Diving Log on Android:

Diving Log 6.0 Changelog:

  • Garmin Mk2/Mk2i Support
  • SeacSync Import
  • Tree Browser improvements (new: Shops/Dive Centers)
  • Dive Site GPS Import improved (Switch to Windows 10 API)
  • Map Window Navigation Panel (Windows 10 API)
  • OpenStreetMap and Divelogs.de sync issues fixed
  • Libdivecomputer Update (new: Aladin A2, Sherwood Sage)
  • Wlog Import .add file support

Diving Log Android Changelog:

  • Search Dives Function
  • Tree Browser (in App Main Menu)
  • Downloader: Sherwood Sage

Diving Log 6.0 can now download dives from the new Garmin Mk2 via USB, including tank pressure profile data. The tree browser window shows now directly all dives with a certain buddy (without the location sub tree nodes) and has a new “Dive Shop” root tree item.

Diving Log 6.0 is now using the Windows 10 location API for capturing GPS coordinates for a dive site and also includes the navigation panel in the map window, which you may know from the Android app. Of course it requires an external GPS receiver, because most PC’s don’t have GPS build in.

In Diving Log for Android you can now finally search your dives for certain values (numeric or string). You also have now the same tree browser functionality from the PC version.

Diving Log 6.0.18 released

The latest Diving Log 6.0 update is now available and contains the following new features:

  • Statistics Chart Gas Mixtures (Air, Nitrox, Trimix)
  • SAC Profile
  • Profile Edit Gas Switch
  • Profile Editor Offset Function
  • Tank Size & Weight values from previous dives in logbook dropdowns
  • New computers: Sherwood Wisdom 4, Scubapro Aladin A1
  • Downloader Improvements

New Gas Mixture Chart

If you have an air integrated dive computer which records your tank pressure, you can now see a calculated SAC profile:

SAC Rate Profile

You can now easily edit existing gas switches by right clicking the switch:

Edit Gas Switch

You can now adjust all profile values by an offset and/or factor in the profile editor. This is useful if the recorded data is slightly off, e.g. because you’ve set the wrong water salinity type or the temperature sensor is recording an incorrect water temperature:

Diving Log 6.0.17 released

Monday, January 27th, 2020

A new update for Diving Log 6.0 is now available with the following new features and improvements:

  • New dive computers (Mares Genius, Suunto D5, Aqualung i550C, i200C, Oceanic Geo 4.0, Veo 4.0, Pro Plus 4)
  • BLE support for Oceanic & Aqualung computers
  • HeinrichsWeikamp OSTC download fixed
  • Depth profile with gas color option
  • Equipment hours/# of dives since last service
  • Scubapro ZDiveLog import fixed for new format
  • Scubase import improved (organisms support)
  • OpenStreetMap display error fixed

The downloader supports now new dive computer models as well as Bluetooth LE support for Oceanic and Aqualung computers. It also solves a download problem which appeared in a recent OSTC firmware update. Many thanks to Jef Driesen from libdivecomputer!

For the depth profile you can now activate an option to draw the profile right in the gas color which was used:

Gas Colors

In the Equipment window you can see now the number of dives and the dive time since the last service date:

Equipment statistics

Please note that there is currently one thing to keep in mind: The current implementation counts all dives since this date, no matter if this piece of equipment was selected in the “Equipment used” list in the logbook window. So if you have pieces of equipment that is not used on every dive, the statistic is not correct right now.

Android Downloader for OSTC and Desktop Update

Thursday, July 25th, 2019

This week I released a minor update (6.0.16 Update 1) for Diving Log 6.0:

  • New libdivecomputer with bug fixes and download support for these new computers:
    • Mares Genius
    • Suunto D5
    • Aqualung i550C
  • OpenStreetMap fixed in map window
  • Scubapro ZDiveLog import fixed for new format

Diving Log for Android was also updated this week with a rather big thing: the first downloader for HeinrichsWeikamp computers (OSTC) is now available as beta. If you’re using the Android app and have an OSTC computer, please try it out and let me know if it works or not. If there are any problems, activate the “Log Errors” and “Dump File” options in the downloader settings as shown below:

Downloaded Dives

Supported connection types are USB-OTG, Bluetooth and Bluetooth LE (BLE). The downloader is currently beta status, so please let me know via email if there is a problem. Do not use the app store review system to report bugs, thank you!

This update has a lot of the work done to support more computers. But for this I have to port libdivecomputer to Android, which still takes some time. Thank you for your patience!

Diving Log 6.0.16 released

Tuesday, May 7th, 2019

The latest update for Diving Log 6.0 is all about the downloader, which received a lot of improvements and support for many new dive computers:

  • Bluetooth LE dive computer support (Windows 8 and 10)
  • New libdivecomputer version with support for many new dive computers (see list below)
  • Downloader Favorites in Sidebar (see below)
  • Garmin Descent Mk1 in Downloader (USB)
  • New Diviac Import
  • Mares Dive Organizer Import improved
  • Profile Bookmark Dropdown (see below)
  • Switch to .NET 4.5 (no more Windows XP Support)
  • Facebook Share removed (API not available anymore)

Adding Bluetooth LE support was a huge effort and in the planning and making for two years. It required big changes in libdivecomputer and Diving Log, but became more pressing since more and more BLE only computers came to the market. But now you can download BLE computers from HeinrichsWeikamp, Shearwater, Suunto and Scubapro directly with Diving Log on Windows 8 and Windows 10. The Mares Bluelink interface is now also supported, the Bluetooth interface from Oceanic will come soon.

If you have more than one of the same BLE computer, you can select which one to download with the “Select” button in the downloader dialog. You can add your own label to easier differentiate those devices:

Add your own label

Click on “Search unpaired devices” if you have not paired your BLE computer yet. You can now also add specific dive computer models directly into the sidebar of Diving Log by clicking the star icon in the “Advanced settings”. This will preserve the 3 dropdowns (port, manufacturer and dive computer) and will save you a lot of clicks when you have more than one computer:

Downloader “Add to Sidebar”

These are the new dive computers which have been added to the downloader:

Aqualung – i300C
Aqualung – i100
Aqualung – i770R
Cressi – Cartesio
Cressi – Goa
Mares – Smart Air
Oceanic – Pro Plus X

Ratio – iX3M Pro Fancy
Ratio – iX3M Pro Pro
Ratio – iX3M Pro Reb
Ratio – iDive Fancy
Ratio – iDive Pro
Ratio – iDive Reb
Ratio – iDive Color Free
Ratio – iDive Color Fancy

Scubapro – Aladin H Matrix
Scubapro – Aladin Sport Matrix
Scubapro – G2 HUD
Seac – Guru
Shearwater – Nerd 2
Shearwater – Perdix AI
Shearwater – Teric
Tecdiving – DiveComputer.eu

The profile bookmark dialog, which was added in version 6.0.14, has now a dropdown with previously used bookmarks to choose from:

Profile Bookmark Dropdown

Adding support for Bluetooth LE required a switch to .NET Framework 4.5, which is not supported on Windows XP. So five years after the official end of support, I also have to end support for Windows XP. Diving Log 6.0.15 is the last version running on Windows XP:

Goodbye Windows XP

Bluetooth LE Download Support (Beta)

Wednesday, April 3rd, 2019

I have a new beta version of Diving Log 6.0 with Bluetooth LE download support. If you have one of these BLE dive computers:

  • Shearwater Perdix AI, Teric, Nerd 2
  • Scubapro Aladin Sport Matrix, Aladin H Matrix, G2
  • Suunto EON Core, EON Steel
  • Heinrichs Weikamp OSTC 2, OSTC 4, OSTC Plus, OSTC Sport

download this zip file and copy the content into your Diving Log 6.0 program folder.

If you have one of these Mares computers with Bluelink:

  • Mares Smart, Smart Apnea, Smart Air, Quad, Quad Air, Puck Pro

download this zip file and copy the content into your Diving Log 6.0 program folder.

Start Diving Log, open the downloader and select your dive computer. If you see the “Port” dropdown, make sure “BLE” is selected. Enable also “Log Errors”:

Bluetooth LE Download

Make sure the dive computer is as close as possible next to your Bluetooth receiver and the dive computer is in Bluetooth mode, then try to download. If it does not work, send me the error log by clicking the blue “Error Log” link which will show up. If it works, please let me also know (email or comments).

When you click on “Discover”, you will see the paired and unpaired devices. If you have more than one paired dive computer of the same manufacturer, you have to click “Discover” to pick the right one.

Diving Log 6.0.15 released

Monday, January 14th, 2019

A new update for Diving Log 6.0 is now available (click the menu Help > Check for updates if it is not installed automatically. What’s new?

  • New VMS RedBare import
  • EOL.org import working again after API changes
  • Uemis web download improved
  • Divesoft now listed in downloader
  • Cumulated dive time field in logbook window
  • MySQL upload option for POST to URL
  • Dive site map in logbook and site details remembers map type
  • Diving Log Import option for automatic dive renumbering

The Encyclopedia of Life server experienced some issues during the last few weeks due to API and server changes which broke the EOL Import in Diving Log 6.0. In this update the import is working again, but some data (e.g. English descriptions of marine life) are still missing. The EOL admins told me that the missing data should become available over time once they migrated everything to the new server.

The Uemis web downloader should be a bit faster when you have a lot of dives on the server (the first download may be still slow, but it will improve the next time you download new dives).

Diving Log beta update

Tuesday, August 21st, 2018

I’ve updated the latest beta version with some new features and improvements:

You can download the latest beta version (6.0.13 Update 3) from the same location as the previous beta:

If you’ve downloaded the full installer, you can either overwrite your existing Diving Log installation or use it as new installation on a test system. If you’ve downloaded the zip file, please make sure you’ve already installed the latest version 6.0.13. Then copy the content of the zip file into the existing Diving Log program folder, overwriting the existing files.

New: Apnea Dives:

Diving Log shows the dive time for scuba dives in full minutes. When a dive is shorter than 5 minutes, Diving Log will automatically switch to minutes:seconds (mm:ss), which is better for apnea (free) dives. The dive profile will show the x-axis in seconds instead of minutes. You can enter dives shorter than 5 minutes in mm:ss format or as decimal value (e.g. 0.5 = 30 seconds).
