Diving Log 5.0.12 released

Saturday, November 30th, 2013

Today I’ve completed Diving Log 5.0.12, which is now available from the download website. Here you can see what’s new since version 5.0.11:

If you have version 5.0.11 installed, you can simply install the update setup. If you have an older version, I recommend to install the full setup instead (you do not need to uninstall the old version before). Thank you to everyone who has tested the previous two beta versions!

New Diving Log Beta

Sunday, September 8th, 2013

You can download a new beta version with the following new features:

  • Universal Downloader improvements. More data will be downloaded from the dive computer (if available and depending on the device model):
    • Gas mix and gas switch support
    • NDL, deco ceiling and stop time
    • CNS, PPO2 and Setpoint
    • Heartbeat and compass bearing
    • Download only new dives support
    • Other improvements and some new devices
  • DAN DL7 Import improved for Cochran computers
  • Uwatec Smart Download and SmartTrak Import improved
  • Spanish Language improvements (many thanks to Luis)

The “Download only new dives” support in the universal downloader will reduce the download times dramatically for some dive computers (not all). Some devices which support this feature will send only new dives which were not yet imported into your logbook. This functionality will be enabled after you imported a new dive with this beta or the next stable release and it is independent from the dives which are actually stored in your logbook. It will simply remember the last dive which was imported with the universal downloader (imported, not downloaded).

If the checkbox is disabled like in the image above, you have not yet imported a new dive since installing the new version. Once you’ve done that, you can enable the checkbox for the next download. Install the update setup into the existing Diving Log 5.0.11 program folder. If you have an older version, please update first to 5.0.11 and then install the beta setup.

Diving Log for Windows Phone update released

Friday, June 28th, 2013

Today I’ve submitted an update of the Diving Log Windows Phone app to the store. It is an update for WP 7.1, 7.8 and 8.0 devices and contains these new features (supported WP version):

  • Online dive site search (7.1, 7.8, 8.0)
  • Contacts integration (8.0)
  • New small and wide tile sizes (7.8)
  • Theme adjustments to match 8.0 version (7.1, 7.8)
  • Bug fixes (7.1, 7.8, 8.0)

Contacts integration:

In WP8 apps can provide custom data for the phone contacts (people hub). In Diving Log you can integrate now your buddies and dive shops into the phone contacts very easily by activating two switches. The contacts will be automatically merged by Windows Phone with any existing contacts, so you won’t end up with double entries. You can disable that again at any time and the contacts disappear from the hub.

Contacts1D Contacts2D

To enable that feature, open either the buddy or shop list in Diving Log and tap on the phone book icon in the app bar. Then activate one or both toggles to integrate your logbook contacts into the phone contacts. Diving Log will be just another contact source like Outlook.com, Gmail or Facebook.

When you add, edit or delete buddies or shops in Diving Log on the phone, the details will be updated automatically in the contacts hub. When you modify logbook contacts on other devices (e.g. on the desktop) and sync the logbook file to the phone, you have to press the “Refresh” button after syncing the new logbook to the phone to update the phone contacts. This doesn’t happen automatically, because it could take a while depending on the number of contacts and I wanted to let you decide if and when this happens.

After two betas, the next stable version is now completed and can be downloaded from the download website. These are the new features since version 5.0.10:

  • Templates are editable
  • Scubapro LogTrak Import (Meridian)

The last 4 changes were added since the last beta version, with Liquivision Lynx support as the main new feature. But there were also some minor tweaks for the Galileo Trimix and UDDF imports from VPlanner. Special thanks also to Jef Driesen for constantly working on libdivecomputer. If you want to support this project, you can find a donate button on the website. Libdivecomputer is the open source download library behind the universal downloader in Diving Log and many other applications.

Diving Log 5.0.10 released

Friday, March 29th, 2013

Diving Log 5.0.9 was just released a few days ago, but unfortunately the new universal downloader had a bug which caused a crash in some circumstances. Today you can download version 5.0.10 and use the update setup either from 5.0.8 or 5.0.9. I’ve added also a few other things:

  • Universal Downloader bug fix
  • New import from Subsurface
  • Improved Suunto Dive Manager 4 import (gas switches and deco)
  • UDDF Import optimized for Submatix SPX42
  • Missing translations in some languages fixed

The Subsurface import was tested only for metric Subsurface logbooks, so if you have a logbook with imperial units it may not work correctly. Please send it to me if you want to import such a file.

Diving Log 5.0.8 released

Wednesday, November 7th, 2012

Diving Log 5.0.8 is now released and can be downloaded here. Please note: you can install the update setup only if you have version 5.0.7 or the latest beta. If you have an older version, please install the full setup instead. These are the new features:

Some of the new features were already shown in recent blog posts and are linked above. Here are some new additions:

Android SCUBALog export: I’m trying to provide some more options and choice for Android users by cooperating with other app developers and I’m glad that the first one is now available. You can export your data to the Android app “SCUBALog” (import is planned in the future). You’ll find an app switcher in the Android sync dialog where you can change the data format.

The app switcher is in the top right corner

Equipment weight calculation: You could enter the weight of each equipment item for some time in Diving Log, but up to now nothing was done with this information. But now you can select any number of items in the list and the overall weight is calculated at the bottom. This is useful when preparing for a vacation, for example. Additionally you can see the weight of all checked equipment items in the logbook per dive.

Skype integration: I’m sure many of you use Skype and now you can call a phone number right from your logbook by clicking the little Skype icon behind a number in the buddy and shop dialog. This works with the Skype desktop app, but also with the new Skype app for Windows 8. Make sure to enter the country code for each number if you want to use this feature, otherwise Skype seems to have problems. If you want to use your mobile phone, you can scan the QR code to quickly call that number.
