Diving Log 6.0.5 released

Saturday, June 4th, 2016

A new update for Diving Log 6.0 is now available, with the following features and improvements:

  • Diving Log for Android Sync via USB and Dropbox
  • USB Sync for MTP connected Android devices
  • Downloader (New: Cochran, Shearwater Perdix, Cressi Newton, Aqualung i450T, Aladin Sport, Aqualung i300, Beuchat Mundial)
  • New ISCan APECS 4 Import
  • New Aqualung Diverlog Import
  • Subsurface Import improvements
  • LogTrack Import improvements for Mantis M2
  • Fix: When using autostart, update check does not block the application anymore
  • Bug Fixes

USB Sync for MTP connected Android devices

Syncing with Android devices via USB is now a lot easier. In the past, you could not save your logbook file directly to the device when it was connected in MTP mode, which almost all devices do nowadays. Instead you would have to save the file to the PC and copy it manually in Windows Explorer.

With this update you can now sync to (and from) the Android device directly even in MTP mode. In the upper left corner the device should show up and Diving Log will sync directly to the correct folder. This works for all compatible Android dive log apps (Diving Log, DiveMate, etc.):

Diving Log 6.0.4 released

Friday, March 11th, 2016

A new update for Diving Log 6.0 is now available, with the following features and improvements:

  • Profile-Compare feature
  • Downloader: support for new computers
  • New Hollis Explorer import
  • Subsurface import improvements
  • MacDive import improvements
  • Excel export improvements
  • Fixed: main window seems to freeze when autostart and update notification overlay each other
  • Bug Fixes

The update will be automatically installed when you start Diving Log the next time. To force the update, click the menu “Help > Check for updates”.

Please note, in the current Diving Log version which you’ve installed, the update notification could be overlaid by the autostart window (e.g. logbook window) and it seems the application is locked up. To fix it, press either two times Alt-Tab and if that does not help to bring the update notification to the front, kill the application in the task manager and start it again. Then check for updates manually after it has launched. This bug should be fixed in the current update.

A note to all Windows 10 Insider Preview users: There seems to be a bug in the latest Insider Build 14279 of Windows 10, which prevents Diving Log 6.0 to start correctly (there is a System.Windows.Markup.XamlParseException). I’m not sure if all languages are affected, it currently looks like it affects only German versions of Windows. I recommend you wait and do not update to Build 14279. Other .NET WPF applications also seem to be affected. As this is a Windows or .NET Framework bug, I cannot fix this from my side. Again, this is only the insider preview (beta) of Windows 10, not the normal (stable) version. If you’ve already updated to Build 14279, you can revert to the previous build in the Windows settings app. See also this (German) forum post

Sort order of tanks can be changed

If you want, you can now change the sort order of the tanks in the “Tank & Gas” window. Please note, you can only change the order of tank number 2 – 10, the first main tank is always on top and can’t be moved or deleted:

Cloud Sync folder can be configured

Sometimes Diving Log cannot auto detect the location of your local cloud folder (Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive and OwnCloud), e.g. if you have changed the default location. In this case, Diving Log displays an error message “Please install the sync application”. Now there is an additional link “Select folder…” which enables you to select the local cloud folder on your PC manually. Please select the root folder, the “Divelog” folder will be created automatically if necessary. Please note, this link is only visible if the default folder could not be found:

Diving Log 6.0 – Public Beta

Saturday, April 18th, 2015

I know some of you are eagerly waiting for the first public beta and today you can finally download it. If you want to test it, go to the beta portal, read the release notes and download the installer to your PC. You can install it side-by-side with version 5.0 and switch back and forth between both versions, which is especially useful for features which are currently missing in 6.0 beta.

For the first time, Diving Log has an automatic update tool, which means you don’t have to download and install updates manually. The beta will check every day (only when you launch it, no background updater) if there is an update and ask you to download and install it automatically:

Let me know what you think of version 6.0, what you like, what you don’t like, how you feel about the performance compared to version 5.0. You can use email, the beta forum, Facebook, Twitter or comments in this blog. I will update the beta regularly to fix bugs and add missing features from version 5.0.

Diving Log 5.0.15 released

Monday, November 24th, 2014

You can download a new update for Diving Log 5.0 with the following new features:

  • Suunto Dive Manager 5 Support
  • Divelogs.de Sync Update (multiple tanks)
  • SAC Calculation improvement for sidemount dives
  • SAC Calculation multiple tank average improvement
  • Universal Downloader update
  • Japanese Language Support
  • Bug fixes

The Universal Download is now using the latest libdivecomputer, which supports some new header data as well as new dive computer models: Suunto EON Steel, Subgear XP-3G, Aeris F11, Aeris A300CS, Mares Airlab. Many thanks to Jef Driesen for his continuous work! If you want to support libdivecomputer, you can donate on the project website.

The SAC calculation has been improved to better support sidemount dives. Up to now, tanks used during the dive has to be used in the dive profile in order to calculate the correct SAC rate. That makes sense for dives with multiple gases, because you have to switch the gas/tank to get correct deco calculations. When diving with sidemount tanks, you have the same gas and switch a lot during the dive. However you don’t switch anything in the dive computer, because you use the same gas. For these dives, the SAC rate is now calculated correctly. All tanks, which are not assigned to some part of the profile, will be added automatically to the first tank in the tank & gas window. This works even for dives which don’t have a dive profile. You only have to make sure that the first tank in the list is actually one of the sidemount tanks.

The average SAC calculation for multiple tank dives has been improved to reflect the actual dive time of the tank. A high SAC rate tank during a short period of time is now weighted less for the average SAC rate of this dive.

And last but not least, Diving Log is now available in Japanese! Thank you very much to Hiroyuki Yamada, who not only translated the desktop version, but also Diving Log Touch and Diving Log for Windows Phone! This was a lot of work and I’m sure the Japanese Diving Log users will be really happy.
