i know there's a way to manually add fields when editing a dive, but i dont get where it appears nor how it works, any help greatly appreciated...
(maybe i need to post screenshots of what im talking about, but perhaps Sven knows, he's psychic!)

Do you mean the user defined fields?
Click on Logbook > Additional > 2nd button in the small toolbar
(I know, it's a little bit hidden
)

OK, when you are in Edit mode (click on "Edit" in the toolbar), you can double click on a line in the grid. When you click in the first column you can enter the field name, which is the same for all dives. When you click in the second column, you can enter the value, which can be individual for each dive.
